Unidentified Past Monsters Mathew has Battled!

Mathew awoke one morning to a psionic attack. Some malevolent force tried to force its way into his sluggish brain and take over. Fortunately, I was able to shield him long enough that he could fully wake. I prepared to investigate, although we were initially delayed by the fact that Mathew was eating a dozen donuts.
Following the psionic residue of the attack, we were eventually led into the woods, when this thing came at us. It projected massively malevolent psionic force from its single, lidless eye. The picture is a bit blurry, so you may not be able to tell that the creature looked a lot like a human heart with tentacles and a single eye. The beast's first glance nearly killed Mathew in his tracks. Mathew hid behind a tree while we contemplated our next move.
Eventually, and acting on advice from our friends who believed the creature to be some variation of a Beholder, Mathew went at the beast with his eyes closed while I directed his attacks. It was an extremely awkward and clumsy way to fight, but it eventually proved effective when Mathew squashed the beast. It popped like a meat balloon. We still have little idea what it was, where it came from, or why.
